Welcome to my page!

Thanks for taking a minute to get to know me. I have been teaching since 2004 and have very much enjoyed it every year. I began my career in Tucson, AZ, where I taught middle school history. After moving to the great state of California, I began teaching at an online high school. This allowed me to teach students from all over the world. In 2019, I was given the opportunity to return to the traditional classroom at Ethan A. Chase Middle School, where I am able to work with a great group of teachers. My wife, Lori James, is also a PE teacher at EACMS.

I am exctied to make history come alive to each and every one of my students. My goal is to help the students realize that history is important because it connects to life today. I enjoy using a variety of methods to achieve this goal and make each day interesting.

In addition to teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife and 6 kids. I live in the area and 5 of my 6 kids have attended EACMS. As an eternal learner, I read…everything. From fiction (adventure or mystery novels!) to history to education to "how to" books. I desire to continually increase my knowledge and, in turn, impart that knowledge to my students. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities. I am an avid mountain biker (I try to go 3 to 4 times a week). I also enjoy hiking, cycling, and kayaking. My family and I enjoy road trips. I also like to participate in obstacle/mud runs (my wife and older kids join me in these as well).
